NES

Studying at NES is something incredible! One day you can be so glad that you got here, but just a few days later you can regret of your choice.

One year ago I was thinking to go to some technical university like MIPT or Bauman University and wanted to become a programmer or an engineer. I have been studying hard for 4 year to achieve my goal. Then happened something that I even could not imagine – I won a prize on the economics olympiad that gave me possibility to get to any economic university I would like. Only after that I decided to get an economic degree. Well, I’ve passed the exams that technical universities required, so I had chance to go there, too.
Four months ago I was thinking where to go to continue my studying. To tell the truth, I don’t like the choices like this because all your future depends on this choice. I’ve been thinking for a long time. Well, I’ve chosen the university quite rapidly – the Higher School of Economics was at the top in many ratings, but there was another difficult choice – which faculty to go. It was four of them in my list: the Faculty of Economics, ICEF (International College of Economics and Finance), the Faculty of World Economy and World Policy and the joint program of HSE and NES. Everybody advised me to pick the last one, but firstly it looked too risky for me because the program was only one year old. I followed their advices and chose HSE-NES.

Yeah, quite often I regret of my choice. It happens approximately three or four times per week because sometimes it’s almost impossible to do all the homework that our professors give. Once I had four “deadlines” at one day. I thought that I’ll go crazy. I had been doing my homework for 16 hours almost nonstop. After that incident I just laugh when people from other universities or faculties say how their studying is difficult.

Well, such situations couldn’t screw up general impression of NES. Studying here is very interesting, although it’s very difficult. I can feel my progress. I get something new from almost every lesson. I feel how my English has improved in such a short period. I don’t spend my time in vain – still, I have no time for really interesting and necessary things *sad smile*. So, I regret of my choice quite often, as you can see, but I hope that I won’t after 4 years – when I’ll finish NES!

  1. Yes, your thoughts about the difficulty of the work here at NES seem to be a common theme this week on students' blogs. It is that time in the semester. Remember that the end of the semester and a break is coming up soon, and spring semester has more holidays than fall semester. Also, I think most college graduates would agree that the first semester of the first year is the hardest.

  2. I had nearly the same situation, but I haven't ever won an economics contest. I did my choice (between MGIMO-MEO, HSE IT(or something like that, do not remember the name) and HSE-NES only in the beginning of august. However, I hadn't ever regret as I like everything here. I do not think that our department is the hardest, although I agree that it is not the easiest. What is more, I think that we get the most modern and qualified education in economics in this country, and I hope we won't have any problems in finding a job after finishing our university.

  3. hey, guys! maybe your know the story of my entering nes, never mind, if you are interested i can tell it lately. but what i can say -- that nes was a king the best place for where i can possibly enter, so-called glass ceiling. I had even a sense of hesitation where to go, because i definitely know that i want to study where we are studying now, and i know that i have only two ways to enter nes: economics vseross and state exam. my first attempt was failed but the second was quite satisfactory. Now i feel that this is my place, and everything happened as it had ro happen!
